"The 'solo effort' these days has become just another thing we've come to expect and promptly forget, like new kid's breakfast cereals. Guitarist Adam Burt (STNNNG, Total Fucking Blood, The Vets) however has coughed up something pretty super and original to lay into with his Blackcloud Stallionheart thang and debut disc, 2009.
Appearing suddenly as an alarmingly curious songcrafter who deadpan baritones his way through simple hooks and lyrics, Burt's preoccupations seem to float around themes like mysticism, Old Testament name-checkin', science, and pop politics. His guitar playing, both acoustic and electric, would feel quite at home alongside a variety of other stylists at any given point on the 30 minute record (Ben Chasny, Richard Thompson, Joe Satriani, classic Popul Vuh's Conny Veit, and more song-style Ranaldo/Moore are a few that pop into the head), but the whole god-dang unified thing lightly rambles and shambles along with its own open-chord, strummy boldness that is really beautiful. This is- as they say- a guitarist's guitar album, but it's also a songwriter's album. You will also hear on this recording some minimal accompanying instrumentation breaking up the gaps and filling the pleasant rhythm box. It's silly and meditative at once, and it is also just so very awesome."
